Discontinued: see our new review of its improved replacement, the BEL Pro 500

BEL Pro 500 looks little different that its BEL GX65 predecessor (right). But a range of subtle improvements makes it significantly better.

The BEL Pro GX65 ($469.95 MSRP) was the flagship Beltronics GPS-enabled model. The cloned Escort Passport 9500ix, arguably the world's best GPS-enabled radar detector, was identical under the skin and dead equal in performance.
Its successor, the BEL Pro 500, retains those virtues in a comprehensive update.
Aside from some enticing improvements, it's now the least expensive high-performance model with GPS.
A few competing GPS models can be had for less but in detectors, that's no guarantee of performance, as we discovered in a recent test.

Why is GPS in a radar detector such a big deal? Two reasons: Most important is no false alarms. And it's the only effective defense against red light and speed cameras. |
